Police officers face injuries or even fatalities on the job every year across the nation. They go to work daily, dedicating themselves to protect and serve the public, just like Officer Webb Sistrunk did on the day he was shot in the shoulder – a risk most people will never comprehend.
On an ordinary day, Auburn Police Department’s K9 Officer Sistrunk responded to a call concerning a domestic dispute. Officers were dispatched to the scene after a woman dialed 911 to report injuries.
Unfortunately, this day would not unfold like any other. When Sistrunk and his fellow officers arrived at a residence in Auburn’s Arrowhead Park, they were met at the door by an individual armed with a rifle and donning body armor. The suspect opened fire at the officers, seemingly awaiting their arrival.
Sadly, both police officers Webb Sistrunk and Evan Elliott sustained injuries, while officer William Buechner lost his life. Fortunately, Officer Sistrunk survived the ordeal and was treated at a nearby hospital.
Three days following the incident, Sistrunk received a heartwarming visit from his partner, K9 Leon, who was allowed to visit him in the hospital. K9 Leon’s joy was evident as he saw his companion in good health, surrounded by caring family and friends.
Although K9 Leon was filled with happiness, he seemed puzzled as to why his companion wouldn’t let him immediately hop onto the hospital bed. All he wanted was to shower his partner and friend with kisses, showcasing his immense happiness at seeing him again.
