A dog born with only two legs, abandoned to die, has managed to adapt to life by using her two front paws.
Putol, a six-year-old Filipino dog born with a congenital malformation, is often seen running alongside other dogs and roaming the streets of Casiguran in Quezon City.
Putol, which means “chopped” in the Luzonian language of Tagalog, has learned to balance herself with the help of her owner, Danilo Codilego Jr.
The dog, who has become a local favorite due to her courage and enthusiasm for life, entered Mr. Codilego’s life when a former colleague brought four puppies.
While the other puppies were adopted, the small two-legged Putol was left behind.
Many believed she wouldn’t survive for long. I was the only one brave enough to help her. We took a chance because we felt sorry for her. Apart from Putol, we were at a loss for words.
Putol faced challenges in walking during the first two years of her life, but she eventually managed to find her balance using her front legs.
Now at six years old, the dog displays fierce loyalty to her owner and is often seen guarding Mr. Codilego’s home.
Putol assumes the role of a guard dog, barking whenever a stranger approaches, Mr. Codilego shared.
She also appears to get jealous if I give attention to another dog. Apart from that, she is friendly and well-liked in the neighborhood.
When I have to travel for work, she doesn’t face any problems as everyone takes care of her.
She isn’t picky; she enjoys the food we provide.
Due to her condition, she cannot become pregnant.
